Birdwoman is born, lives, plays and dances until she disappears again into another world.
We are silent witnesses of a creature in constant transformation between object-animal-human.
The performance invites us to look more closely and enter into a world of imagination, fairy tales and wonderment.
Still a bird is a performance installation created by Rebecca Lenaerts. This wordless performance, on the crossroads between theatre, dance and visual arts, explores the tension between appearing and disappearing, between physical and imaginative realm.
Birdwoman
Rebecca Lenaerts started collecting bird feathers on the streets of Berlin in 2015. Looking at the ground, walking took on a different dimension. It became a search and find. Collecting feathers grew into a ritual of washing, drying and preserving. In 2018 she sewed the feathers one-by-one on a blanket. A monk's work. During a creation process of nine months, Birdwoman was born. In ancient mythology, Birdwoman is the gatekeeper between the human and animal world.
Rebecca Lenaerts
Rebecca Lenaerts is a Belgian artist, working and living in Brussels. With a background in theatre, her exploration into audio stories and storytelling gradually made place for the silent language of the body. She was inspired by Japanese Butoh (Dance of Darkness), which she encountered while living in Berlin in 2016. Since then, Lenaerts trained with several Butoh masters in Europe and Japan. She is currently coached by dancer and choreographer Tijen Lawton. More info on Rebecca Lenaerts (English version below)
